Submarine cables to increase connectivity to the region

Ben Coleman

West Africa's internet access costs are some of the highest in the world. The reason is the virtual monopoly on internet traffic from the region - the Sat3 submarine cable which links West Africa to Europe.

The good news for your business is that the environment is set to get a lot more competitive with four new submarine cables due to service West Africa. The second cable to land, MainOne, just made landfall in Ghana. Prices to get online are expected to fall, or bandwidth per dollar rates are expected to increase - no-one yet knows which. Regardless, improved connectivity for the region in the near future looks certain.
