The USAID Trade Hub’s Home Décor & Fashion Accessories Advisor assisted Senegalese producers in selecting products for the International Contemporary Furniture Fair May 14-17 in New York City. Organic cotton textiles and soft furnishings – pillows, curtains and table cloths – were among products identified. www.africa-now.org

Submarine cables to increase connectivity to the region

West Africa's internet access costs are some of the highest in the world. The reason is the virtual monopoly on internet traffic from the region - the Sat3 submarine cable which links West Africa to Europe.

May 4th Highlights

Exporter Development
Sierra Leone’s AGOA Committee and the Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency have drafted a national export strategy.  AGOA Services Manager Abou Fall trained 65 business managers (16 women) in the law’s provisions.

Ghana’s Minister of Trade and Industry established a National AGOA Implementation Committee to work on a strategy for Ghana to better benefit from AGOA’s trade advantages in the shea, cashew and apparel sectors.
