Juice consultant advises Ghanaian fruit and juice businesses

In Ghana, the Trade Hub hosted a roundtable discussion on February 3 for Ghanaian fruit and juice exporters, commercial farms, and mango producer associations to meet with Mr. Jim Perz, managing director of U.S.-based consulting firm Global Juice Resources on requirements for exporting fresh fruit and juice to the U.S.

Mr. Perz told the participants that new suppliers from Ghana will compete with established global suppliers and that buyers’ purchase patterns depend on price, quality and service.

“The U.S. market has100% juice quality regulations, like Juice HACCP, an active inspection upon arrival program, Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification, and social responsibility audits,” he said.

Under the U.S. African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), some fresh fruits and juices from Africa enjoy duty-free access to the U.S. market, giving them a competitive advantage over those coming from Central and South America.
